OpenVPM vs Provet Cloud
Provet Cloud is one of the more open closed systems, with a public API and a data-ownership message. OpenVPM takes that message all the way to open source.

Workspace access is immediate. Live clinic use starts as a guided pilot alongside the current PIMS. See current fit and rollout limits.
Provet Cloud, from Nordhealth, is a cloud PIMS strong with multi-site and referral hospitals, especially in Europe. It stands out among closed systems for a documented REST API with webhooks. OpenVPM makes its code and schema public and has no self-hosted software license fee, but its API, integration ecosystem, and current practice scope are much narrower.
Quote-based vendors can change commercial terms at any time. Confirm pricing, implementation, integration, support, and exit terms in writing before buying.

What about your data?
Provet deserves credit for a real API and a data-ownership message. OpenVPM makes its source and schema public, but its targeted REST surface is narrower than Provet's mature API and integration ecosystem.

If you run a multi-site or referral hospital, want a mature European-built cloud system, and value its integration ecosystem, Provet Cloud is a strong option.
When OpenVPM is the better fit
Consider OpenVPM only for a controlled, connected single-location companion-animal or house-call pilot. It is not production-ready for Provet's multi-site or referral use cases.

Common questions
Provet says I own my data. How is OpenVPM different?
Provet markets data ownership through its API, which is genuinely good. OpenVPM is open source, so you own the application and the schema too, not just API access to a platform someone else controls.
What does Provet Cloud cost?
Provet's official US pricing page publishes a monthly platform fee that includes one veterinarian, plus a per-veterinarian rate that varies by plan. Enterprise pricing and optional AI agents are quoted. Confirm the current total for your practice in writing.
Does OpenVPM have webhooks like Provet?
Yes. OpenVPM supports signed webhooks for selected events and a targeted REST API. Provet has a more mature integration ecosystem today; OpenVPM's differentiator is that the application and schema are also open source.
